Fantastic work guys. I deleted your weeks ago. Hurray for Zone Alarm and AVG!

Been listening to the Yoshida Brothers a lot lately. They are fucking bad-assed. Watch some youtube videos, seriously. Rising and Change (with Monkey Majik) are really, really good.

Started playing Rock Band. Branden bought it. Seems like someone finally got a rhythm game with drums right. And here I was thinking Donkey Konga was good. Taiko Drum Master can't tough it, either. Looks like I'm relegated to bass, though, as Zack seems intent on being the drummer, even though Amber had more fun with it. Pix as soon as I can get the sent to me.

Final Fantasy: The Pun Within

OHKAY So here's the last set of pictures from my project. Just a note, though: This is an example model only. To do a finished design would take a lot more effort and budget, so we were only supposed to do a whiteboard display. Which I did, so don't complain about it looking terrible.
Here we've got a bit more progress done, and you can see the results of my madd Dremel skillz.

Almost finished in this one. I was actually pretty surprised that it held it's own weight.

I put in some text here, to kind of show how it might look. Sort of.

And here is how it would hold the cans. The way it's supposed to work is that there's a fountain, with a cherub that pours water over the cans, which are in a clear plastic cupholder/sleeve/thing, thus keeping the cans cold and the customer dry. It's hard to explain.

Anyway, glad to be done with that. Now, I've got to take Amanda in to work, and then come home and pass out. Nite!

oh god my hands

I just finished my final project for my Concept Development class. It's a Point of Purchase display (the kind you see at cash registers) for Red Bull. I've been awake for over 24 hours now, minus 3 for a short nap. I don't think the 3 hours of sleep I got last night really count, though (I'm not really sure what day it is anymore). Anyway, here are the promised pictures (part 1):

This is the setup I've been working with for the past few days. I decided to hole up in our mini-living room, and plugged my computer into the stereo and our television (looks nice after some tweaking) so I could upload my work to classes, and also to listen to trancey/chill/groove net radio. Trust me, it helps.
This is my first real progress. It's the base for the display, and it miraculously help the damned thing up the whole time I was working on it. Go me.
Cutting the foam board with a razor and no handle is quite a pain, though. Literally. You have to push really hard, and I think it's starting to dig into my bone. My finger still feels sore, even though the last thing I cut like that was about 10 hours ago.
INTERMISSION: The bread Amanda made yesterday didn't quite rise (because of the bread machine being a bitch). Apparently the bread was unhappy with the situation as well.

Coming soon: Finals Part 2!

12.13.2007

being stuck at work sucks

Especially when I know I could be doing better things with my time. I know money is important and all, but so is passing my classes (which I'm kind of struggling with right now, let me tell you). Really I guess what bothers me the most is that nothing I really do is all that important. It's kind of unendingly depressing. Here's what I drew on my napkin in the break room yesterday. Even my sketches depress me lately.

I'm working on my final project right now; I'll post some pictures later. I've got to build a model display for Red Bull. Don't really know why I picked that, but I think it'll look cool when I'm finished.
I might not even fail ^.^

12.12.2007

on time and why it sucks

First off, it's been way too long since I've drawn something for fun. So, here's a quick sketch that probably sucks. Hoo-ray for emoart™!

Secondly, I have way too much to do, and pretty much no time in which to do any of it. This may have something to do with my propensity to use my free time to hide from my problems (or, occasionally, sleep) instead of doing the things that I need to get done. Like now, for instance. Bah.
Got to have some tasty dinner with Branden and Amber; that was both unexpected and fun. It really made me feel better. I don't get nearly enough time to just be with people, I think. At least, people I like. People who suck seem to hound me at every step.
Got a TeeVee for Christmas (early). Zelda looks nice on a decent set. I kinda feel consumerist about it, though. I have internal arguments where I tell myself that I don't really need any of the stuff I want, and that I'm being selfish for thinking about it so much. Then the other part of me goes "but it's S H I N Y" and sadly I can't argue with his logic. It is shiny. And I like shiny things.
Bah again.
Need to nap for a bit before I hafta go to work. The other thing I don't get to do much lately is sleep. I miss that.

fucking HATE symantec

So Norton tells me yesterday that there's a new upgrade available. I look at it, it's 2008, and it's supposed to run faster or something. Since it runs slow as hell anyway, I figure it probably couldn't hurt. I mean, they wouldn't remove even MORE features like they did in '07, right?

Dead wrong.

Not only did they remove ad-blocking (probably the ONE THING in norton still worth the effort), it's pretty much gimped it's own usability. Sure, it's black and shiny now, but it doesn't fucking work. I don't even think the firewall is working anymore. Here's a copy of the letter I just sent them:

Your product "upgrades" remove features. Stop breaking things that work just fine. After installing 2008, I no longer have ad-blocking. This is AFTER I had to search through your developer's blog entries to find the Add-on Pack for 2007. I had to use Google to find it, it wasn't even available via your site's search engine!
This is ridiculous. Words cannot express how much disappointment, frustration, and extreme annoyance I am feeling toward you right now. Your business model is broken, and whoever keeps making the decision to do things like this either has no respect for the intelligence of your customers or does not care about your product at all. I will never purchase, install, or even pirate a Symantec product ever again. That's right, I wouldn't even steal it. I will also do all in my ability from this day forward to make certain that no one I know does the same.
I must now spend the next several hours of my time trying to rectify the damage your "upgrade" has done. In all likelihood I will need to entirely reconfigure my anti-virus to get it to its previously functional state. Thank you for the wasted time.

Kindest regards possible,
::pockyninja

So now I have to go try and fix my computer. Again. All the while looking at that goddamn masochist monkey who wants to give me a fucking iPod.
Some days I hate the world a little bit more than others.

getting up

Hey everyone! Sorry I've been off this so long, I've been super busy with work, school, and everything else like that. Hope you didn't miss me too much while I was gone. So, I've decided (thanks to zack) that I'm gonna start doing a new thing here. I call them Metagames. Basically what I do is go into a game, and play by the rules I set up. Also, I don't tell anyone else what I'm doing. Turns out it's pretty fun ^.^

This is a clip from Gunbound, a free game run by ijji.com. The chat setup is terrible, and mostly consists of little kids looking for "hot asian chicks." So of course I messaged the first one I saw and told him I was in fact Asian, 'hawt,' and a girl. Really only 1 or 2 of those is true. The game cut off the first part of the conversation; I had just finished explaining how "the boys don't pay attention to me ;_;" (to which I got a suddenly concerned "why?" so I don't feel so bad about dicking around the shallow horny teenager). This was because they "like american girls better than me :("
I guess the extra t's in hottttt suggest that he means it? Also, we're both 17 so Yay! It's legal!
Osaka is in Japan. Just so you know. Also, hot has a double meaning!! I hope you guys are taking notes.
aaaand here's the kicker. The number I gave him is for the National Suicide Hotline. I made up the 2044 part ^.^
at this point, i was thinking "shit shit shit needanameneedanameneedaname...uh, kami! no wait, that's an actual word. Kimi! woot!"

There was a brief pause, and a little bit more banter after that. I am really sad I wasn't there to get his response :( Seriously tho, everyone should write down that number to use in this sort of situation. I know it won't be the last time they get calls from confused teens looking for hottttt azn grlz.

And so, the final scoring of my Metagame (out of 10):
  • Fun Factor: 6
  • Creativity: 8
  • Role Play: 7
  • Crowd Control: 8
  • Evilness: 6

  • Bonus: +5 for getting him to believe an 800 number, -2 for not knowing how to type more like a girl

  • Overall: 38/50

Finals ate my neighbors

Well I really kinda wish they would, or at least their annoying dog. Working my arse off this week, gotta do a six-ish hour drawing tomorrow that I am not looking forward to. Also I have some sort of sinus infection slash ear infection slash throat wounds of doom thing going on that's kinda starting to annoy me, in addition to causing massive pain every time I talk. Or cough. Or eat. It sucks.
Anyway, here's my final assignment for my color theory class, hot off the drawing tablet.

Yup, I drew Ashenvale.

9.16.2007

a maniac, for sure

So I've been drawing things a lot lately, and I've had a lot of projects to keep up with. I did a self portrait (not the one above) but I'm not gonna post it 'cause it's pretty terrible. I mean, it looks nothing like me (I suppose that's to be expected) but I got the proportions wrong and it didn't turn out too hot. I'm pretty proud of the shading I did, though. I think that part turned out okay.
Hannah had her kiddo this week, and just got home yesterday. There are pictures, but you'll have to look at em on Facebook. Amanda went to the hospital with her, and came back really tired. Understandable, really.
Kay, I've gotta go do another assignment now. Cya~~

9.05.2007

a quick note:

I haven't slept, so it's still Tuesday.

Hope ya like it. There will be more.

9.04.2007

posters

It's raining today, so I was a bit bored. I made these:

Okay, the last one is terrible, but I really couldn't resist.

just a note

Be wary of rain that pores.

9.01.2007

mah hands!

Well, I'm 3 weeks into my next set of classes (yays for being a good, punctual updater...*cough*) and this set is drawing and color theory. Just finished this one, it's an exercise for blind contour drawing; basically you don't look at what you're trying to draw. I drew my hand, which btw looks weird enough as it is. I think I did okay, tho. The detailing makes it look a little bit like a gorilla hand. I promise I don't really have gorilla hands.

So I'm still working on that comic-ey thing. I think I'm gonna go for Tuesday updates; that'll give me the weekend to work on em and also Monday after I've slacked off all weekend. So there's my promise: there will be a comic on Tuesday. For really reals.

Nathan made a really cool song. I'm listening to it now.

finalz suck

Just finished my latest round of classes yesterday, turned this in for my final in design. Not as good as I could have hoped, but decent, I think.
I started drawing a new comic. As soon as I get a buffer of about a week or so, I think I'll start posting them. Not here, tho, but I promise I'll link it.

kittenus esplodicus!

So though a complex series of events that are not entirely clear to me, we now own a pair of kittens, in addition to our other cat, Snickers. They are about 6 weeks old now, and in addition to not being very smart they are also cute.

This is Crème (we had been calling him Tubby until we decided on a name.) He's a little slow, but cute and snuggly. Also we think he's part albino, and he doesn't see very well because of it (albino animals are usually blind or deaf). Also his eyes glow red instead of the normal kitty yellow/green, which is pretty cool if you ask me.

The other one is named Turtle. She's a lot more clever (and smaller) than her older brother. She happened to be the alpha of the litter, and gets into everything. She also does not like to hold still for pictures. At all. This was the best shot I could get.

Snickers of course is annoyed at both of them. It's really funny to hear him growl at them when he is eating. It's roughly the equivolent of what a zombie gargling jello would sound like. Not even kidding. I think mostly he's just really confused at what the hell these tiny little non-cats are.
Like I said, they are really squirmy. And Crème's eyes really do glow red. It would be scary if he wasn't so dumb. And please excuse my underpants; I normally wear a belt. And a shirt, but that's a different matter.

metal fish can still swim

I think I could have done a better job with the lighting on this one. I need to play with that feature a bit more. I'm pretty happy with this one, otherwise.
On another note, at some point I need to go back and stick labels on all of my stuff. Probably should have started with that. Bugger.

8.02.2007

convenient laziness

I've been thinking today, I don't really listen to music on my hard drive anymore. Since I got high-speed internet, I've never taken the trouble to build a decent playlist of music I like. There are so many good streaming radio stations (somaFM, DI, OCremix) that I just sit down, turn one on, and go.
It's kind of interesting, really. The reason I used to listen to downloaded music (back when napster was free) rather than streaming was because my dailup *shudder* and crappy computer couldn't handle it. I remember starting some downloads before bed, then waking up the next morning to see if they were done. I only do that for extremely large downloads now. And even then, it's more like go take a walk, come back and it's done. Things back then took FOR-EV-ER, internet wise. I did learn something of patience, back then. Now, if my net hiccups, I get ticked off and glare at the modem.
I really can't help but wonder the impact of increasingly faster technology on the younger generations.
On the other hand, if all of the wifi and cell phone signals all stop functioning simultaneously, people my age will be as gods. Woo!

This is a pattern I made for my design class. I've been told that it looks like fabric and also razor wire. Comfy.

3 circles

playing around with illustrator, it's pretty fun. people said they liked this one, but it made amanda dizzy. grids are a pain in the butt, if you're wondering.
So Amanda's getting things set up for Hannah's baby shower. I wanted to give her some soap, but evidently that pun is too terrible to inflict upon a pregnant woman. Damned social tact, what did you ever do for me anyway?
Oh, and I'm gonna break free from hell shortly. Woot! (I may only be going into another one, but hey, at least it's different scenery.)

7.23.2007

yes, we have stores like this here

This is one of the exercises I had to do for my perspective class. Can you tell I got a bit bored while making it? I've gotten so used to drawing on my tablet, I've had a tough time getting back into pencils. I need to buy a right-angle.

7.22.2007

and it seemed like such a good idea, too

If someone ever asks you
"What should I use to cut my vodka?"
the answer is not
"...more vodka!"

Trust me, it will not end well.

7.15.2007

ow, my back

I need to find my clipboard; hunching over to sketch stuff is getting old real quick. Classes are a lot more busy this term; perspective in particular has been kicking my butt. Probably because most of my drawings aren't of anything real. Might have something to do with it. But I guess you've got to learn the rules to break 'em, neh?
Speaking of breaking rules, I thought of something last night. If
A + B = A
then what two things can we discern from that? The easy answer is that B = 0. The logic fuck is to consider that B is something we cannot perceive by any available means, so it we label it as 0 in order to make it understandable. But if B isn't 0, even if we can't perceive it, it means that the A on the left side of the equation isn't the same as the A on the right side of the equation. A has had something changed in it. It's not the same A as it was before B came along. In this case, A /= A.
Now think about how many B's have happened to you, the things you've never been able to notice. All of those instances and events in your life that you cannot even begin to comprehend. The things that change you.

Are you still you?

7.12.2007

!hciwdnas

My parents brought us some leftovers from McAlister's, but it was covered in, according to Amanda, "icky" honey mustard. So she scraped it off, added some more acceptable spicy mustard, and then inverted the whole damned thing for some reason.
It was evidently quite tasty.
I just started my classes again this week, and the drawing projects are already kicking my butt. I need to make sure to keep up with them (ie not be a bum).
Also, Amanda started a blog. It looks a lot better than mine does.

Zack:
wb

Daniel:
thx
so what do you want photoshop for?

Zack:
Well
There's the character sheets we're using, with weapon and armor both on the front page and the older list of skills.
and then there's the newer one, the one that's in the back of the Player's handbook.
I want to take the front page equipment table from the older one, paste it onto the newer one and use that, and then just use the back page of the older one.

Daniel:
do you have a scanner?

Zack:
I do

Daniel:
so you have scizzors?

Zack:
lol Yes.
I see where you're going with this.

Daniel:
well there ya go.

Zack:
lol

Daniel:
I don't really see how this is complicated.

7.06.2007

well where would you put a robot superhero?

Feeling kinda blegh today; gonna rest up a bit and see if I can't feel better.

The fourth was pretty fun. Not as many people showed up as I would have liked, but there are worse things than having a freezer full of uneaten hot dogs, I guess.

I drew something else. Wasn't really sure what I was gonna put on the hill; and coloring something in on a background like this didn't really seem to work well. Kinda meh, but you might like it.

my skies are brighter

Finally got chance to sit down and play with some of my painting software today. I've been thinking about this one for a while; not sure if it came out the way I wanted entirely. I'm okay with it, though. Hopefully I'll get to do this a bit more often; it was fun.

blogging lite

I picked up the new ds browser. seems to work fairly well. I like being able to use the net from bed, without a laptop. pretty nice.

6.12.2007

moving sucks

Z O M G
i have been so frikkin busy the last two weeks. moved across town; we have so much stuff.
between work and school i've been up till 4 am most nights. needs me some sleeps.
druid hit 50. woo-berries. not that it's important or anything.
got my tablet; i heart it so much ^.^
okay, i'm off for tonight. maybe this will resemble a blog again soon. maybe something else (ooooooooooh)

5.11.2007

the big announcement

I am a student again! Wooooo!!

I just started my classes for graphic design. Yay! I am excited but also sleepy.
I am also going to get a tablet! Double yay! Finally, the order went through right.

That's about it for right now. Need to get some sleeps. Details coming soon. Possibly!

5.05.2007

So I just saw Spiderman 3

BWAHAHAHAHHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAAAAAAHHAHAHAHAAHAHHAHAAAAA!
Eee he hehhe heeh hee...
*snrkt*
AAAAAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!

5.01.2007

like we used to

just got back from hanging out with my friends from high school. haven't done that in quite a while, as one of them has been in colorado for most of the last year. i think this summer will be the last chance we'll really get to do all that. kind of makes me a little sad.
really tired right now. gonna shower and get some sleeps.
still need longer before i can tell you all stuff.

also my cat eats beetles. mmmmmmmmmm.

4.29.2007

hurray for sunday

So I'm going to get a Wacom tablet! I am very excited. It's the Intuos3 series, and I got a pretty good deal on it too. Should be here by the end of the week, if there aren't any problems. I'll keep you posted about that one.
Don't really have time to talk about much right now; still need to get a few things ironed out before I can post much. But if things go well, some really good stuff could be happening for me in the near future. I can't wait ^.^

Well, I *can*, but it's hard.

I hate to admit it, but I'm really getting excited about pokemon. It's Zack's fault, really. He picked up a copy for the DS earlier this week. No way I'm gonna let him show me up.

4.27.2007

Yeah, that's probably long enough

Okay, so I'm back from my hiatus I think. Been doing a lot of stuff lately, and hopefully I'll be able to announce something really cool in the next week or so. But until then, I'm gonna try really hard to post stuff more frequently (I promise for really reals this time, like BFF promise) so be sure and check back often. 'Coure, there'd probably be more incentive to do that if I'd put out more content, but that's another story entirely. Mostly one about how much I hate the frikkin scanner and how HP are all whores, but I'm getting off topic here. With any luck I'll be able to draw stuff directly into the intertubes pretty soon. More or less, anyway. Yay for technology.
So we went by "The New Walmart" (that's how they answer the phone now, lawl) to pick up an FM Transmitter that they didn't have at my store, and a few other things. It's really pretty fun watching them work, really. It's like when you get to be a senior in high school, and you go back to your old elementary to watch the kids on the playground, and the 5th graders think they're the shit and you really can't help but laugh at them because they're so effing proud of themselves. It's something like that but I think I lost the analogy somewhere in there. You get the idea.
Been WoWing a lot like every good introverted young adult male should. Not gonna list my chars here tho, partially because I'm too good for that and partially because I don't have proper screenshots of all of them to show you. I'm such a poser. (Well, like a poser but with a better looking body ^.^)
I should prolly post a new pic of me. The old ones look silly. Maybe I'll get on that. And maybe I'll post some more in a traditional style. I'm just emailing this one in, it feels like a bit of a cop-out. A nifty (technologically speaking) cop-out, but a cop-out nonetheless.
Personal note: nonetheless is a cool word.
ADD note: I used "acrid" in a sentence today! I am proud of me ^.^
I'll have to do some more poking about to see if I can upload pics this way; but it's a bit too late to do that tonight. Speaking of which, I really should be off for the evening. I'll try my best to get something for you to read up every night, cause I love you that much, internets.

3.07.2007

so

I'm not going to write anything for a while.

2.22.2007

Dear Symantec: Why do you suck so much?

I just finished installing Norton Internet Security 2007 (Suck Our Balls Edition) and I can safely say that I am less than impressed. It's like they don't trust the intelligence of their customers anymore. The new version has been stripped of 2006's features almost entirely. All of it has been replaced with a dumbed-down interface that would be insulting to iPod-toting frat boys. Ad and popup blocking have been removed, not to mention parental controls (not that I needed parental controls, but it's a very dumb idea to take out something that was a major selling point to most people).
Only after scouring the site for 30 minutes (search: where the hell is Ad Blocking!?) was I able to find the very well-hidden Add-on pack that restores at least SOME of the functionality of previous versions. Why it wasn't on the damn front page is beyond me (maybe they were afraid the terr'rists would get it??) Gawd, Symantec. I just don't want to see that effing masochistic monkey and his free electronics anymore.
Also:

Zack is having fun in the 'rado.

2.06.2007

new stuff

So I like a softer world. They're good. A lot more good than bad, anyway.
Amanda got a new phone, woo! Cause the old one died. Samsung sucks balls.
I really like Samurai Champloo. It's not new, but the soundtrack is really really good. Like all the way good. Good to 11.
Guitar Hero is fun, but I wouldn't get into it enough to be able to beat my rivals. Which is a bad reason to get into anything. Leads to the Dark Side, or something.
Possibly getting a new desktop, cute little miniature uberfast one. For like $500. With vista and a decent monitor, that's like $50 for the system. Not too shabby. I'd still use Gilliam*, though.
Cleaning up a bit, and I feel much better for it. Eff you, clutter!
I forgot to take Shaolin Soccer back to Hastings. Dammit. Also not new, but a great movie nonetheless.
I think WoW is fun. There, I said it.

*Gilliam is my current PC. I changed the name from Ryo-Ohki after the hard drive cratered.
Gilliam need RAM. And a new video card. Poor old Gilliam, we love you anyway.

2.02.2007

happy new years! (late)

Sorry it's been so long. I'd like to say I've been pretty busy being constructive, but that'd be another lie. The place is a mess, I haven't really drawn anything, and I'm still only thinking about tracking music. I'm pretty much a big bum.
On the other hand, though, work really takes a lot out of me. When I get home, I just wanna veg out and try to relax. Is that really that bad? On my days off, I feel like I have to run around so much that I can't think straight. I feel like I'm just waiting for things to cave in around me. And maybe I want them to. Maybe after everything falls apart, there will be something new that I've never seen before. But then again, maybe I'm just ready to let everyone down, and get it over with. I'm not going anywhere. And I don't even know where to begin to fix things.
I'm ready, world. What are you waiting for? Take your best shot.

(Also, the pic is from New Year's Eve. I'm completely smashed. Woo!)
